A personal message from Lorant

Hey, if you've never heard about me, this one's a good starting point to get to know me better.

Hello Oncer,

Many new faces have joined my mailing list since my last message, making a steady move towards the 1k milestone! Although some of you might already know a bit about me, I realize I’ve never formally introduced myself. For both new and long-standing subscribers, let me take this opportunity to share a bit of my story.

My name is Lorant, and it might be simpler to list what I'm not rather than what I am, but I'll try to sum it up.

Professionally, I'm a product designer with over five years of experience, specializing in design systems. I've developed a sophisticated design system named Once UI, which significantly automates brand development and product design through smart component nesting and tokenization. If these terms seem confusing, don't worry—you might not even need to understand them. However, if you're curious, you can delve into these concepts in my ebook, The Design Dividend.

I recently co-founded DesignEdge, an agency dedicated to helping small startups and product teams enhance efficiency and improve their products using the right tools and resources, primarily based on Once UI.

Additionally, I am the founding designer of Confinity, a social app for families designed to help nurture important connections away from the overwhelming effects of traditional social media.

To date, I've probably created millions of auto layout frames and written tens of thousands of lines of code, mostly for my side projects. The most notable of these is Creatillo, a social app for artists that, despite its sophisticated features—including a custom blog CMS, built-in comment system, notification center, and polished UI—never quite took off. Currently, I use it solely for my graphic novel, The Journal of the Universe.

The Journal of the Universe ties together my past projects by combining art and design. It began with moody digital paintings that eventually wove into a narrative. It’s a journal that illustrates a past, present, and future—not necessarily mine or yours, but one that could exist somewhere far across time and space. Although the project is currently on pause, it remains one of my most cherished works, and I am eager to return to it.

That's a brief overview of the last seven years or so—probably just enough for now.

If you'd like to connect further, feel free to reply to this email, join my Discord, or connect on LinkedIn.

Warm regards,

Lorant
