Eclipse release. Successful launch. React system.

Working on our first SAAS concept.

Our launch last week was a blast, and I want to extend my appreciation to everyone for their support. You rock!

However, this is just the beginning of our journey. The true excitement starts now.

Doing

We have begun developing our React library, and the progress has been phenomenal. Our ambition is to create a revolutionary tool that will transform the landscape of design systems.

We are eager to test the initial concept with a select group of people. If you're interested in being part of this exciting phase, please join us on our Discord channel and connect with us.

We are also excited to announce the public release of Eclipse, our planet generator library. This tool was instrumental in creating numerous visuals for the new Once UI platform.

For those with an existing Once UI account, you can sign in and download Eclipse immediately. If you haven't yet created an account, I highly recommend doing so — it's free, and we plan to release a wealth of valuable resources in the future.

Q&A

Every week I publish an answer to some interesting questions from the design community. Ask / Tag me on our Discord or Reddit, and it may get featured here.

Tokens studio or Figma variables for managing tokens? Which one would you recommend and why?

Token studio (https://tokens.studio/) is an awesome plugin for Figma that has pioneered token system creation- and maintenance years before it was natively available in Figma, and I believe that it has influenced Figma's approach to their own variables feature implementation.Token studio is capable of more sophistication than Figma variables right now, such as:

  • syncing to git

  • exporting as JSON

  • branching

  • calculations

  • typography tokens

  • compatibility with style dictionary

On the other hand, Figma variables go beyond design tokens. They offer a wide range of opportunities for conditional rendering, state management and layout management for example.

Figma is continuously expanding the capabilities of variables, and I believe that even in its current state it's perfectly suitable for most products.

I would consider Token studio only if we were looking forward to storing tokens on git or maintaining a system that relies heavily on calculations, since it might take a while to see these features natively being supported in Figma.

Although it's really important to consider the collaboration aspects as well: Token studio is a far more technical and complicated implementation than the native variables, which may be confusing to many designers.

Creative Friday

Last Friday we took some time to recharge by hiking outdoors, a much-needed break after the overwhelming past few weeks. However, I'm thrilled about tomorrow's plans. It's finally time to grab a pen and dive into some freehand creative work.
