Family photo. My philosophy. Radius, Radiuses, Radii?
Don't follow this stupid border-radius formula.
In the upcoming weeks, I will dedicate some time to share insights into my philosophy, mission, and vision. These reflections aim to offer a glimpse into how I perceive our world currently, how I envision the future, and where I see my role and contributions.
This week, I'll focus on philosophy, which is anchored in a fundamental principle: striving to be better each day than I was the day before. This encompasses nurturing my profession in digital design, exploring a variety of topics that spark my interest, experimenting with new hobbies and activities, carving out time for creativity, spending quality moments with loved ones, and of course, maintaining my health through regular exercise (my partner and I enjoy bouldering) and a mindful diet, although I acknowledge there's room for improvement in this area.
This philosophy is my driving force, helping me stay motivated, find purpose in life, and feel a sense of gratitude at the end of each day.
Doing
I've been delving deeply into enhancements for Once UI. The color management part is nearly complete, and it's pure epicness! My next target was revamping the border radius system. It's now capable of managing a variety of pre-defined styles, ranging from rounded to sharp, with a special attention to handling nested radii appropriately.
I’ve merged The Design Dividend into the docs, so it will be available in an interactive format as an integral part of the documentation as well.

As you might have noticed, the documentation is set to receive a significant UI facelift. It will be an excellent platform for testing interactive components and provide an opportunity to learn about Once UI's concepts in depth and facilitate seamless collaboration with your team.
Q&A
Every week I publish an answer to some interesting questions from the design community. Ask / Tag me on our Discord or Reddit, and it may get featured here.
Instead of our standard Q&A, I'd like to share a valuable insight I gained over the past week working on the border radius system that contradicts a popular concept.

Don't use the "inner radius + padding = outer radius" formulaI'm working on a flexible border radius system for Once UI and I thought I'd implement this simple concept that's been reshared a dozillion times over on this platform. While simplification can be beneficial to improve scalability, there are cases when it simply results in bad output. It's one of those cases. Most posts about this concept illustrate it with a 8px inner radius and 8px padding, which results in a 16px outer radius. So far, so good.Do the math with a 2px inner radius and 8px padding, and it will result in a huge and awkward visual difference between the two.
What’s the solution?Rely on your eye rather than this formula.
News
InVision is shutting down their design collaboration services after Freehand being acquired by and getting integrated into Miro.
While my experience with their services was limited to my early days as a junior designer, primarily for creating basic prototypes, their sophisticated visual language and proficiency in crafting exceptional landing pages have significantly influenced my approach to design.I feel sad about their story since I think the folks at InVision were not only highly skilled professionals but pioneers, who unfortunately couldn’t find their place on a quickly maturing market.
